You probably can’t consider this a crisis, but ever since Eveready, the Kenyan battery company pivoted to making rechargables and bulbs among other things outside what it has been known for all these years, batteries, things are not okay in the small device battery space. This includes wireless mouse, TV remote and wall clocks.
All these were built without rechargeable batteries as a focus. And that’s the problem. One used to get these things cheap, with 30 kshs ($0.3) you had a pair or batteries, the price has gone up with the scarcity of Eveready batteries and now you have to pay Kshs 200 upwards for the same pack by different vendors. These include Kodak and the more established players of durable non-rechargeable batteries Duracell and Energizer. Of course many of you hadn’t bargained for this.
That’s why you may want to go back to a wired mouse the next time your buying, inconvenient but you worry about one less thing.
