So I’ve just been warned about this that Spotify has been quietly killing your SSD’s life for months by writing massive amounts of data over and over, even when the service was in idle mode.
Ars Technica was able to replicate the problem, discovering that the app wrote anywhere from 5GB to 10GB of data in less than an hour, even when left in idle. Leaving Spotify running for periods longer than a day results in data writes amounting to 700GB.

What really is the advantage of using Spotify desktop app when you are on the desktop, versus the browser? I have always used the browser.

I have used the web browser version for free for close to a year now complete with unlimited skips and no ads.

The Spotify app looked fancy on the taskbar. Just deleted it to stick with the browser version.
