OpenWRT for Router

#1

My query here is how do I flash tplink firmware through Tftp using an openwrt image?

I got the wr740N v6. I found that openwrt’s image for wr841 v10 can work on my router. Problem is the router cannot be flashed using the http protocol through the tplink portal so I have to use a bootloader.

I downloaded solarwinds server and configured it but I could’t get the router to boot from the server. I am looking for a step by step direction on how to configure the server, load the image and get the router to boot from it. Including the command prompts for the same.

Send help!

Absolutely. Thanks. But I either don’t understand steps 1-3 or there is something I am doing wrong

  • Set up a tftp server on your PC and verify if it works correctly (configuration, permissions, firewalls, etc.)
  • Rename your target firmware to wr740v4_tp_recovery.bin and copy it to your base folder (by default /tftpboot). I tested with openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr740n-v4-squashfs-factory.bin r43602.
  • Set up the following static IP for your PC: 192.168.0.66 /255.255.255.0. If you’re not sure about the firmware name on a different model, start a packet sniffer on your PC ( tcpdump -i eth0 -n -l ) and look for the name in the RRQ message
