Disable Your Antivirus Software (Except Microsoft's)

Robert O’Callahan, formerly a developer at Mozilla tells it as it is linked here.

antivirus software vendors are terrible; don’t buy antivirus software, and uninstall it if you already have it (except, on Windows, for Microsoft’s).

Interesting read. But what is the ligibility of this guy?

The author is a former full time developer at Mozilla and made contributions to web standards and Gecko, the browser engine that powers Firefox. The post also cites Justin Schuh, head of security at Google Chrome.

Microsoft has stepped it up on security compared to the XP days and A/V essentially brings more problems than it solves.

But this does not deal with the part where I was stuck with adware (causing annoying browser hijacks) and Windows defender did nothing all the while. I was only able to eliminate adware when I installed ESET.

I do not think that antivirus software should be really uninstalled. You never know when you may need it
